Thoughts from a Young, Christian Conservative

Being a 21-year-old white, male, conservative republican alone manifests a certain stereotype today—especially living on a college campus. Regardless of how diverse my social circle is and how—brace yourselves—non-racist and non-sexist I am, I am judged to the core, mostly by people who don’t know me, because of my skin color and political affiliations. However, as surprising as it may be to my leftist peers, my political views are not based from a stance of white supremacy or male domination—the exact opposite, actually.

Well that just makes no sense, right--? But I am a republican simply because the party today follows an agenda rooted in Christian ideology and morals. It’s sad, but I find myself wondering which identity I am made to be most ashamed of by my disagreeing peers. So many times, I’ve come across liberals who worship the government, shouting for them to do more and more to rid our lives of the worldly evil we find ourselves living among. They thrive on ideologies of an illogical utopia to make themselves feel as if they are a part of something meaningful, because they are lacking in another area: faith.

It’s so simple to say that if everyone lived life by Christian morals, and looked to God for guidance, they’d find what they are looking for in their demands of peace, love and equality; the answers are written inside this Book I read once. But sadly, the answer is not that simple—if it was, we’d have all died already and gone to the Utopia that God has prepared for us. I pray the power of prayer is enough to save us all.
